Understand the teaser
How a teaser works
A teaser is a parlay of spreads and totals where every line moves the same number of points in your favor. With 6 points, a −7.5 favorite becomes −1.5, a +2.5 underdog becomes +8.5, and an over 47.5 becomes over 41.5.
The trade-off is the price. Instead of multiplying each leg's odds like a parlay, the book pays one fixed price for the whole ticket, and every leg still has to win.
Why 3 and 7 matter (Wong teasers)
In the NFL, 3 and 7 are the most common final margins, so moving a spread through both of them turns the most likely close results from losses into wins.
The classic 6-point "Wong teaser" does exactly that: favorites of −7.5 to −8.5 teased down to −1.5 to −2.5, or underdogs of +1.5 to +2.5 teased up to +7.5 to +8.5. The name comes from Stanford Wong's book Sharp Sports Betting. It applies to football spreads, not totals.
The idea is widely known, so the price still decides whether a teaser is worth it. Compare each leg's realistic win chance with the break-even rate above.
Pushes and ties
Books grade a pushed teaser leg differently. Some drop the leg and pay the smaller teaser's price; others have different rules. Check your book's house rules before you bet, since this calculator assumes every leg is graded win or lose.
